About Me

Joannes Berkery RGN RM MIAHIP

My Psychotherapy training focused on the Humanistic and Integrative approach. Humanistic is a term that is used to describe an approach that respects, values and treats the individual as a whole person physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally. This method also holds the belief that people have choice, freedom, responsibility and the capacity to change, heal and grow towards reaching their true potential.
My original training as a registered Nurse and Midwife gives me a grounding in the human conditions of illness and dis-ease which supports my Humanistic and Integrative approach.

Integrative means that I draw creatively from a broad range of therapeutic strategies to help you on that journey. There is no definite prescribed method for any dilemma. The ranges of therapies I draw from are Gestalt, Person Centred, Mindfulness, Existential and Hakomi. In addition, my training as a nurse/ midwife/ acupressure shiatsu therapist enables me to view the whole human being, body, mind and spirit.

For groups, I offer self care days, team building, conflict management and personal development in a group setting. Please contact me directly to discuss the needs of your team/business and we can collaborate together and create a specific plan for your groups requirements.

The rooms I use are located in the centre of Nenagh town, adjacent to the Abbey ruins, with free parking available. Directions will be given when an appointment is scheduled. The privacy and seclusion of the rooms adds to the confidentiality and ambiguity needed to create a safe environment . The downstairs consulting room, waiting area and toilet are wheelchair accessible. Group room is availabe for groups up to 10 people.

I also offer all consultations on line during this pandemic if people do not wish to or cannot travel. Zoom, Doxyme, Skype and whatsapp are online channels available.

My accreditation is with the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP) As a professional psychotherapist, I abide by their codes of ethics. You can view this code at the IAHIP website, www.iahip.org. I am also a member of the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP).
